The 1/10 oz Gold Eagle offers an affordable way for investors to buy gold coins. In terms of U.S. gold bullion coins, it is the smallest size available.

Each of these fractional gold coins is legal tender with a face value of $5. The purity is 22 karats (.917 fine gold) and each coin contains one-tenth troy ounce (0.1 troy oz) of pure gold by weight.

The designs are a smaller version of the regular American Gold Eagle motifs. The reverse features a family of eagles, created by artist Miley Busiek. A father eagle approaches the family nest carrying an olive branch in its talon. The mother eagle cares for their two eaglets in the nest. “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are found on either side of the eagles. The bottom rim is inscribed with the weight “1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD” and the denomination “5 DOLLARS.”

On the obverse, the classic Saint-Gaudens design of Lady Liberty is given a slightly updated appearance. Liberty confidently carries a burning torch above her head as she climbs to the top of a hill overlooking the U.S. capital. She holds a large olive branch in her other arm, outstretched to the side. Radiant light can be seen in the background. “LIBERTY” is inscribed at the top rim and the year-date “2021” is placed on the right side of the design.

This will be the final year of the iconic design before the new issue is released in 2022!  The 2021 American Gold Eagles are sure to become collectors items for years to come!
