Guidance Corporation is proud to offer 2021 Silver Krugerrands brand new from the South African Mint, stored in mint-sealed boxes until ordered. The obverse of the Krugerrand, depicting the effigy of Paul Kruger, was struck from the original die used in 1892 for the Kruger half-crown coin. The reverse was designed and engraved by Coert Steynberg, a famous South African sculptor, and depicts a prancing springbok, a national symbol.  These are some of the most popular Silver coins issued from the South African Mint, which is also known for producing Rand Gold Bars and the world famous Gold Krugerrand.

Description

First introduced in 2017 as a premium coin to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Gold Krugerrand, the Silver Krugerrand is now offered as a Brilliant Uncirculated coin and has become popular with investors and collectors. The Silver Krugerrand has the same design as the Gold Krugerrand but does have a face value unlike the Gold. The design is the same as it was when the coin was introduced in 1967. It features the South African Republic’s first president, Paul Kruger. On the reverse, a springbok, which is the national animal, and the date of minting appear. The springbok seems to be jumping into action, while President Kruger is a reminder of 19th century South African political and military affairs.

The history of the South African Mint goes back to the opening of the first state mint in Pretoria in 1892. The current South African Mint came into being in 1941 when the South African government took over the Pretoria branch of the Royal Mint.
