20 Francs Tunisia Gold Coin – Ruler Ali Bey – 1891-1903

20 Francs Tunisia Gold Coin – Ruler Ali Bey – 1891-1903

$724.76

The Tunisian 20 franc gold coin, also referred to as the Tunisie 20 francs, was issued by the Paris mint from 1891 to 1904 after Tunisia had become a French protectorate. This coin  is made from  21.6 karat gold and is embellished with Arabic legends and well-formed arabesque decoration. Tunisian 20 franc gold coins dated pre-1904 are relatively scarce and are highly collectable, as they were melted down and lost over time.

The obverse features two styles which are very similar; both feature Tunisian inscriptions in the center with a shrub of leaves on each side and a beaded circle on the edge of the rim.  The reverse side features the inscriptions “TUNISIE 20 FRANCS” with the year below inside a circle that is surrounding by vines with the same beaded circle on the edge.
