Engelhard Corporation once produced a wide range of precious metals products for investors to purchase. Originally opened as a platinum smelter in 1903, by the end of the 20th century the company was refining a range of rounds and bars in gold, silver, and platinum. One of the most famous vintage platinum rounds in the world, these 1 oz Engelhard Platinum rounds are no longer in production.  The 1 ounces of pure platinum make these rounds a convenient ways to investment, while their vintage, rustic quality appeals to collectors who desire an authentic Engelhard product to add to their precious metals collections. Engelhard was one of the most reputable  manufacturers in the industry, based in New Jersey.  Due to their rich history, Engelhard’s products have always commanded heaps of respect in the precious metal market.

Hence, they may show some minor form of wear and faded tones appropriate to their age. Obverse designs on the 1 oz Engelhard Prospector Platinum Rounds include the image of the Prospector. This design was introduced with this series in the 1980s and comes with a depiction of the prospector kneeling down in a shallow creek with his pan in hand as he searches for gold in the creekbed.

Reverse images on the 1 oz Engelhard Prospector Platinum Round depict the American bald eagle alongside the US flag and an olive branch. The eagle appears to swoop down with its wings behind its figure and its talons clutching the American flag on a flagpole and an olive branch.

Engelhard spent more than a century in the precious metals refining business. From its original structure as a platinum smelter and refiner, Engelhard grew to produce gold and silver as well. The company ceased operations in 2006 when it was purchased by BASF.
