Description
Like its silver and platinum counterparts, the Gold Maple uses the famous maple leaf design created by artist Walter Ott on the reverse. The leaf is flanked by “9999” on each side, indicating the coin’s purity. The issuing nation “CANADA” is inscribed at the top rim. At the bottom rim, inscriptions include “FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR.”
A small micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark is placed to the right of the main maple leaf’s stem. This added security feature makes the Gold Maple Leaf virtually impossible to counterfeit. Another anti-counterfeiting measure is the coin’s eye-pleasing radial line finish in the background.
On the obverse, an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right is featured. Her Majesty is depicted without a tiara but wears a pearl necklace. The inscription “ELIZABETH II” appears at the top rim. The coin’s denomination “50 DOLLARS” and the year-date are both inscribed at the bottom rim. The edge design is reeded.
Aside from its time-honored design and sleek appearance, the Gold Maple Leaf has also garnered a high level of trust and liquidity in the global precious metals trade. Its prominence as a gold bullion investment has only grown since its inception in 1979.
