Description

The 2018 release of the Chinese Silver Panda coin is the third year in which the Chinese Mint issued the coins in their new Gram weight measurements. The Chinese Silver Panda was the first major coin program, and to date only, to move away from Troy oz as the official measurement of weight marked on the coins.

On the obverse of all Chinese Silver Panda coins is a new image of the giant panda each year. This bear species, often referred to simply as the panda, is located in the south-central reaches of China. Though it is considered a carnivore, the pandas diet consists largely of bamboo, with up to 99% of its diet focusing on bamboo.

The reverse of all 2018 30 Gram Chinese Silver Pandas features the Temple of Heaven. The centerpiece of a religious compound in south-central Beijing, the Temple has for centuries been a religious and social gathering place.

The Chinese Mint is the production facility of all Chinese Silver Panda coins. While its primary facility is the Shanghai Mint, the coins have no mint marks and could also be produced at Shenyang or Shenzhen.
