Anna Williams was the woman who posed for the silver dollar but her modeling was regarded as scandalous and she lost her position once her identity became known. The notoriety of the event only increased the popularity of the Morgan Silver Dollar.

Now the Morgan Silver Dollar design adorns the 10 oz Morgan Silver Bar. These illustrious bars are brand new and depict stamps denoting their .999 fine silver purity and their weight ten troy ounces. In addition, every 10 oz Morgan Silver Bar features the proud inscription Made in the U.S.A. For many collectors, this bar and its design represent genuine Americana, a bit of American history commemorated in precious metal. The bars obverse side reveals a criss-cross pattern that complements the bars exceptional design.

The Morgan dollar was created in response to the passage of the Bland-Allison Act of 1878. After the five-year depression following the Panic of 1873, so-called “Silverites” proposed a bimetallic standard that would see silver coined into dollars at the former gold-to-silver ratio of 16:1. The Silverites felt that this act would help reinflate the dollar after the Panic of 1873.

George T. Morgan, an assistant engraver at the Philadelphia Mint, produced the winning design for the dollar; hence, it is referred to by his name. Anna Willess Williams modelled for Morgan as Lady Liberty. He said that her profile was the most perfect he had ever seen.
