The Royal Canadian Mint began as a branch of the Royal British Mint, but it has manufactured its own coinage since 1908. Beginning in 1988, it struck the first silver bullion coins. Canadian Maples are widely recognized for their high value and gorgeous designs. On top of that, the RCM is known for being an innovator and is among the first to strike coins with a .9999 fine silver purity. Other firsts set forth by this mint include colored, hologram, square coins, and coins featuring a special security detail.
