Silver Eagles were produced at the San Francisco Mint in late 2021 as a result of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on U.S. Mint operations as well as the massive increase in demand for bullion during this time of global turmoil. Compared to the standard West Point issues with mintages typically in the tens of millions, these San Francisco issues are sought after for their significant scarcity.  American Silver Eagle bullion coins are the most sought-after silver coins in the world. Produced by the United States Mint and sold to investors around the globe, the Silver Eagle is a symbol of the purity and quality of design at the United States Mint. With this new reverse design issued in mid-2021, the San Francisco issues are some of the most rare and collectable.

The Silver American Eagle is one of the most iconic silver coins in the world, with millions of coins sold each year. 2021 was the 36th release of the Silver Eagle series. After 35 years with the same design, the Silver Eagle received a new design in 2021. Type 2 American Silver Eagles feature the same Walking Liberty design on the obverse, but the reverse now is now a Bald Eagle diving with an oak branch in its talons.

The San Francisco Mint stopped production of Silver Eagles in 1992, resumed 2011-2014 and then again in 2021 during emergency production due to the Covid Pandemic.  The mint has once again ceased production on Silver American Eagles.
