Description
This coin forms part of a bespoke series introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint, featuring species from the Canadian Arctic’s unique animal ecosystem.
The reverse of the 2014 edition features non other than the endearing Arctic fox, every strand of his voluminous fur displayed in startling relief, as he surveys his frozen territory. Within the reverse’s wide border, you ‘ll also find the Canadian legend, as well as the coin’s purity, weight and metal content.
The coin’s reverse features a simplistic and youthful effigy of Elizabeth II, adorned in her favorite, pearl necklace. Also on the obverse, Elizabeth II’s name, as well as the coin’s denominational value and year of issue.
Canadian artist, Maurice Gervais, did an exquisite job of bringing to life the beautiful, snow white Arctic Fox or Vulpes Lagopus, who can survive temperature fluctuations of up to 100 degrees Celsius and yet enjoys only a short, 3-4 year lifespan in the wild.
