Description

The world-renowned Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin is also minted in Silver and platinum variations. These coins pay homage to the world-famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which was established in 1842 and continues to be one of the most respected orchestral ensembles in the world. Based at the Musikverein, a prestigious concert hall located in Vienna, this orchestra delights classical music fans across the globe. Musicians are tested through a lengthy application and audition process in order to be considered for a coveted spot in the orchestra.

The obverse of the coin displays the impeccably designed Musikverein Pipe Organ, housed in the Golden Hall. Since 1870, this organ is the fourth version to be installed inside the concert hall. The reverse of the coin, designed by engraver Thomas Pesendorfer, features a recognizable assortment of musical instruments- the Vienna Horn, Harp, Bassoon, as well as a cello centered between four violins.  Coins will be issued in varied years based on our inventory at time of purchase.
