1996 – 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda – Small Date

1996 – 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda – Small Date

The 1996 100 Yuan 1 oz. Small Date gold Panda is a Shanghai Mint product. 1996 was a very active year in Chinese numismatics that was greatly influenced by the impending transfer of Hong Kong from British to Chinese rule. There was much speculation and hoarding that took place during this time period. Later, after the speculative fever broke, many coins were melted. The 1996 100 Yuan coins have a small announced mintage of 22,009, yet only a fraction of these have survived.

There are two major varieties of the 1996 gold Pandas: Small Date and Large Date. The two versions are not hard to tell apart; the numerals of the Small Date are clearly smaller than those of the Large Date. The Shanghai-struck 100 Yuan Small Dates are seen more often than the Shenyang-minted 100 Yuan Large Dates.

You will rarely see pandas communing with other species, let alone each other. Pandas are definitely introverts of the animal kingdom, only in pairs or trios when cubs are involved.

When collecting the Chinese Gold Panda series, collectors and investors take pride in the immaculate brilliant uncirculated finish that is begging to be called proof instead. The use of the matte finish harmoniously balanced with a clearer strike causes the pandas and designs to jump out of the coin. The best part of the amazing craftsmanship of these coins is they change yearly, causing not one year to match. This allures mature collectors and investors in that are willing to bite the bait of these unique coins. The 1996 Chinese Gold Panda coin weighs one full ounce of .999 fine gold and reveals a flawless brilliant uncirculated finish. To top it all off, each coin is contained in a mint-sealed capsule to protect it from scratching.

This Panda coin is sealed in the original plastic as issued directly from the Chinese mint with a mintage of 22,009 coins between both the Large & Small Date varieties.
